Water Conservation the Odenton Plumbing Service Way!

One of the most common questions we get as a Odenton plumbing service is “how can we  conserve water.” While there are hundreds of possible things that a person or business can do to conserve, most of them are location specific. Still, there are some common things that will help. These are the five we suggest most often.

  • Take showers instead of baths. Our Odenton Plumbing Service suggests a 15 minute shower maximum A typical bath uses as much water as a 45 minute shower. Once you've made the switch to showering, set a timer so you won't stay in longer than you need to. 15 minutes is plenty of time to wash your body and hair. By showering for 15 minutes instead of bathing you can save almost 2/3 on your water usage. To save even more, shut off the shower while you are lathering up your hair and wash your body while you are waiting to rinse out your conditioner.
  • Running water while you aren't using it is one of the biggest wastes in your home. In the personal hygiene department, another water saver is turning off the faucet when you are brushing your teeth. This move can save up to 500 gallons a month.

  • The biggest water waster in the installing low flow toilets can save you money entire home is the toilet. By switching to a low-flow  toilet you can save up to 5 gallons of water per flush. If you have a family of 5 that uses the bathroom twice a day, this could save you tens of thousands of gallons a year. If you can't currently afford to replace your toilet, there is a method for adjusting your existing toilet's water usage. Obtain a half gallon plastic milk or orange juice container and fill it with water. Place this in the toilet reservoir and this will reduce the amount of water used per flush by half a gallon. If you have a large reservoir, use a gallon sized container (or a combination of both). Just make sure that the waste water is still flowing down the drain and not sitting in the bowl after a flush.
  • Low-flow shower heads are a quick fix for every bathroom. So are faucet aerators. Installing these fixtures can save 100 gallons per faucet per month and 750 gallons per shower head.
  • A few tweaks to your everyday routine in the kitchen can really add up. Keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator instead of running the tap until it is cold. Scrape off dinner plates instead of rinsing them. Fill the sink with water and rinse vegetables all at once.
